Newport carer is the tops

Outstanding individuals working at Hallmark Healthcare's 20 care homes across the UK were recognised for their dedication and commitment at the first annual Hallmark Healthcare Awards.

Cheryl Wanklyn, home manager at Cherry Tree Care Home in Newport scooped the prize for home manager of the year.

Cheryl said: "I absolutely love what I do, I'm very lucky to have such a rewarding job. I can't imagine doing anything else."

The ceremony took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Birmingham and more than 150 members of the Hallmark team attended the glittering event which was hosted by comedian Rod Woodward.

Miss UK Amy Guy joined Avnish Goyal, managing director of Hallmark Healthcare, on stage to congratulate all the winners and finalists.
