GLAMORGAN recall England spinner Robert Croft for their Cricinfo Championship First Division clash against Surrey at The Oval starting tomorrow (writes Robin Davey). Croft played an important role in Sunday's victory over Lancashire at Colwyn Bay, and replaces Keith Newell in the 12.
"Keith is unlucky to be left out of the squad, especially with Mike Powell struggling for runs," admitted Glamorgan captain Steve James.
"But Mike is a quality player and he got a lot of runs earlier in the season, so we're backing him at the moment."
Glamorgan also keep faith with England under-19 wicketkeeper Mark Wallace in favour of Adrian Shaw, though James says, "Mark probably needs a few runs as well." Newport's Ian Thomas continues to deputise for James, whose broken hand will take another few weeks to mend.
He is not going to Surrey or to Southampton for Sunday's game against Hampshire. Surrey are one place above Glamorgan in the table, and it will be a huge boost to Glamorgan's chances of avoiding relegation if they can win at The Oval.
Glamorgan squad: Maher, I Thomas, Maynard, Powell, Dale, Croft, Wallace, D Thomas, Cosker, S Jones, Watkin, A Davies.
